Another 90 migrants drowned on their way to Europe

Eviralnews, citing “SRF”, about 90 other migrants died when their boat sank off the coast of Mauritania on the way to Europe.

The official news agency and a high-ranking Mauritanian official reported this news. Dozens more are said to be still missing.

Accordingly, the Mauritanian Coast Guard found the bodies of 89 people in a traditional fishing boat that overturned on Monday, July 1, off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, four kilometers from the city of Ndiago (in the southwest of Mauritania).

The coast guard rescued nine people, including a five-year-old girl. The news agency cited statements from survivors who said the boat left the Senegal-Gambia border with 170 passengers. It is said that this boat had moved to the north of the coast of Senegal and had just crossed the waters of Mauritania when it sank. They announced the number of missing people as 72.

This is the last drama on the transatlantic migration route, the first destination of which is the Canary Islands, the Spanish archipelago, and the gateway to Europe. A large number of Africans fleeing poverty, unemployment or a lack of future prospects take this dangerous route. In exchange for money, they illegally board unsafe boats carrying dozens of passengers.
