BRICS countries agree to cooperate on climate change
Eviralnews,, citing Tass news agency, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia announced that the BRICS member countries approved the framework of an agreement in the field of sustainable development and combating climate change.
According to the ministry's report, the said document includes all the main aspects of climate action such as “just transition, adaptation, carbon markets, finance, science and business partnership”.
Maxim Reshnetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of Russia, stated that this framework allows the BRICS countries to determine measures to deal with climate change without harming their economic well-being.
He said: All BRICS countries understand that developed countries should stop adopting unilateral and conservative climate measures.
This Russian official added: These measures will hit the economy and trade chains of developing countries.
Reshnetnikov said: We ask developed countries to adhere to their commitments to finance developing countries in the field of climate change.
According to this report, the second document was the BRICS cooperation agreement in decarbonization and greenhouse gas reduction markets.
The Russian minister said: BRICS countries will be able to examine the entire set of issues related to trade in decarbonization units within the framework of cooperation in decarbonization markets (including infrastructure approaches, methods, validation and verification methods).
