Election results of the Republic of Azerbaijan and bipolarity in political currents
According to Tasnim International News Agency, the opposition political parties of the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan say that the officially announced results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held on September 1 do not reflect the reality.
These political parties claim that the voting was held in violation of the law and complete fraud. At the same time, representatives of the Azerbaijani government say that the elections were held according to the law and the results were real.
National Council: The fake election results do not reflect the will of the people of Azerbaijan
The National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan requested the international community not to recognize the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held on September 1.
Azerbaijan's National Council notes in its statement that setting early parliamentary elections on September 1 was an unconstitutional act.
It is stated in this statement: The National Council, taking into account all the problems at the beginning of the election campaign, called for the democratization of the election environment and the creation of competitive opportunities. But Ilham Aliyev's government ignored these demands and adhered to the tradition of prolonging its life by falsifying elections, and as a result, the National Council had to decide to sanction fake elections. Unfortunately, no steps were taken to change the electoral laws in accordance with the interests of the ruling regime and to create a fair and competitive electoral environment, and none of the proposals made by the Venice Commission on improving electoral democracy were accepted for many years.
The National Council of Azerbaijan believes that there are 303 political prisoners while there are 125 constituencies in the country. This time, without exception, the authorities did not allow the Council of Europe, which oversees all elections in Azerbaijan, to monitor the elections and banned 76 representatives of the Council of Europe from entering Azerbaijan.
The National Council of Azerbaijan says that no public attention was paid to the election campaign, which was conducted in non-competitive conditions and without the presence of real opponents, and the society did not participate in this process in any way.
In its statement, this council has also mentioned the restrictions imposed on independent journalists during the elections and said: Some journalists and observers were removed from the constituencies due to administrative pressure and threats. Journalists of Abzas Media, Toplum TV, Kanal 13, who have professional experience in covering the election process, were arrested on false charges and separated from the election process.
The National Council of Azerbaijan announced: The majority of voters did not participate in the elections of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, which were held on September 1, and those who came to vote participated in this process using administrative coercion. The National Council considers these fake election results unacceptable, because they do not reflect the will of the people of Azerbaijan and calls on the people to actively fight against the fake election results and hold new democratic elections.
Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan: Citizens' right to vote in elections was guaranteed
Azerbaijan's human rights commissioner Sabina Aliva, while announcing the results of the observations made during the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, which were held on September 1, said that the parliamentary elections were held in a situation where there was a large population. It was conducted in a democratic, free, transparent, fair manner, in accordance with electoral laws and international standards, in an orderly manner.
The human rights commissioner of Azerbaijan announced: Taking into account the positive experiences of the past years, a total of 72 employees of the commission worked as observers in early parliamentary elections in 897 polling stations from 117 constituencies throughout the republic. During the observation, the inspector met directly with the members of the district election commissions, observers and voters and got their opinions about the voting process. Violations and interference of any government agencies, including representatives of the executive branch and police officers, were not observed.
The Commissioner pointed out that the basic right of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan to vote in the early elections of the National Assembly is guaranteed by law.
Ilgar Mammadov: We will present our documents to the Central Election Commission
Ilkar Mamedov, head of the Republican Alternative Party of Azerbaijan, announced that the results of the constituencies in which members of this party are candidates for representation are disputed, and we will submit our documents in this regard to the Central Election Commission.
Mamedov said: “After completing this legal process, we will have a final general political statement.”
People's Front Party of Azerbaijan: The results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections are completely fake
The statement of the People's Front Party of Azerbaijan states: The early parliamentary elections do not reflect the will of the people and the announced results are completely fake. These elections were held in a situation where basic rights and freedoms such as free assembly, freedom of expression and association were completely restricted, real opponents and people were boycotted and there was no competition. The new composition of the parliament was formed based on the list personally approved by Ilham Aliyev. Such a parliament cannot be legitimate and represent the people.
The People's Front Party of Azerbaijan noted: These elections were boycotted because the government did not provide even the most basic conditions for competition. The People's Front has always been in favor of participating in the elections and had announced its conditions for participating in the extraordinary parliamentary elections on September 1. These conditions were the simplest steps, such as the release of more than 300 political prisoners in the country, ensuring the freedom of gatherings, representing the opposition in election commissions, and creating opportunities for independent organizations and opposition to monitor the elections. Unfortunately, Ilham Aliyev's power did not allow these conditions to be created, on the contrary, it strengthened its repressive policy and showed that it has no interest in real elections in the country. At a time when the country was ostensibly preparing for elections, politically motivated arrests and prosecutions increased, and even a completely baseless trial was launched against Ali Karimli, head of the People's Front of Azerbaijan party. Another lawsuit started with the claim of stopping the activities of the People's Front party.
The statement of the People's Front Party of Azerbaijan states: The authorities used the traditional method of fraud to show that there were a large number of voters in the polling stations on the day of the election. Voter turnout was less than 10 percent (7-8 percent). However, even this number was achieved not by voluntary participation, but by recruiting employees working in state-funded organizations to vote due to administrative pressure. Different groups voted several times in different areas. Again, the cash registers are full of fake papers. The information about the percentage of participation in the elections published on behalf of the Central Election Commission has nothing to do with reality. The People's Front of Azerbaijan does not recognize the results of these elections and will continue its struggle for new and democratic elections and democratization of the country despite all the difficulties it has faced.
The People's Front Party of Azerbaijan asks the international community to pay serious attention to the fact that every election in Azerbaijan is more undemocratic than the previous one and is held in more limited conditions, all fundamental rights and freedoms are restricted at the state level, and this country is transitioning from a A strict authoritarian regime is totalitarian.
It is stated in this statement: The international community should give a basic assessment of the widespread fraud of the elections in Azerbaijan and ask the officials of Elham Aliyev to fulfill their international obligations more decisively. We ask the people of Azerbaijan to be aware of the difficult impasse that the authorities have put in it. It should be known that individual parties cannot save our people from this impasse. The only way out of this deplorable situation can only be a national movement, a big movement to secure our basic rights and freedoms, including our right to vote.
Equality Party: We do not consider the newly established National Assembly to be a legal legislative body
In the initial statement of the headquarters of the Equality Party regarding the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it is stated: The Equality Party does not consider the National Assembly, which was formed as a result of non-free and fair, non-democratic elections and reflecting the free will of the people, to be the legal legislative body of the Republic of Azerbaijan. .
The Equality Party believes that the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly were not free and fair. This election did not comply with the international democratic standards, the government's commitments to the international organizations of which Azerbaijan is a member. The Equality Party demands the annulment of the results of the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly, the implementation of reforms that guarantee the establishment of a legal government and a democratic society in the country, including electoral reforms and the holding of new elections of the National Assembly in the country.
