Grossi: I hope to meet the president of Iran as soon as possible
Grossi said in an interview: I am happy that I received a letter from the new president (of Iran) that he agreed that we should meet and we should try to do this at the right time. I hope the right time for him is as soon as possible.
Eviralnews,, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi, in a part of an exclusive interview with Al-Arabiya, which was published today, said about Iran that he had received a response from the new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Al-Badishian.
Grossi explained that the doctors confirmed his previous message “based on the need to engage as quickly as possible to establish a constructive, fluid and tangible dialogue in order to reach credible guarantees about the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.”
Grossi went on to claim that “there are still points that need to be clarified and answers that need to be given to the agency that have not yet been provided. So there is this expectation in the international community and I am happy that I received a letter from the new (Iranian) president that he agreed that we should meet and we should try to do it at the right time. I hope the right time for him will be as soon as possible; So I think it will be in the not too distant future, otherwise it will definitely be useless.”
The director general of the agency then announced his readiness to travel to Iran and said “I am ready to come to Tehran and continue the dialogue and of course interact with the new president like his predecessors.”
Further, in response to the question whether the break in relations with Iran after the martyrdom of Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, was requested by Tehran or was the agency's decision, he explained that the consequences of the developments occurred due to the absence of the President and the Foreign Minister. The Islamic Republic of Iran was Hossein Amirabdollahian, with whom Grossi said he was in direct and regular contact.
The director general of the atomic agency then referring to his trips to Tehran and his meetings with the foreign minister and the martyred president of Iran, said that “therefore, of course, the transfer (of the government in Iran) took place and I saw it as logical that until the new government takes office, the possibility of dialogue for There is no tangible result.”
He added, “Now the cabinet of the new government has been approved, and as the foreign minister, we have someone who is respectable to me and I know him very well. Dr. Araghchi, who used to be a nuclear negotiator, and therefore is someone who is aware of the details of this process, and as I said, I am looking for re-engagement with the new government as soon as possible.”
In response to a question about his new report on Iran's nuclear program, he said that “the agency continues to monitor through its inspectors who are present and working at the enrichment facilities in Iran.” We look at 60 percent enrichment, 20 percent enrichment, as well as five percent enrichment, and what we've seen is that it's continuing and they're enriching uranium at between seven and nine kilograms per month with stockpiles of approximately 170 kilograms and even more (inventory) Most continue at lower enrichment levels. We report all this to the agency's board of governors on a regular basis, and considering that we will have another meeting of the board of governors very soon, I will do so.”
He went on to say that Iran's nuclear program, in terms of its progress, “needs a more open view, both in terms of technologies in the form of the latest generation of advanced centrifuges and the amount of nuclear material reserves, and considering the developments in other related technological fields”.
Grossi added, “Therefore, we have discussed with Iran what other measures should be taken apart from the measures that Iran is committed and obliged to take, because this is part of the normal inspection work of the International Atomic Energy Agency. We believe that other issues regarding the production of centrifuges, extraction and processing of uranium and other issues that will be very important to determine the capabilities at the moment are exactly part of the conversation that we had with the previous government and we should have with the new government as well.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, pointing out that Iran is asking for the lifting of sanctions as an incentive in exchange for accepting more voluntary measures, said that “as you can see, this is not limited to a bilateral dialogue between me and Iran, the way other stakeholders participate, other Actors have an important and even decisive effect on the type of approaches and attitudes of Iran.
Regarding Araghchi's recent comment that “the JCPOA cannot be revived in its current form”, he said that it is possible to “close positions with Iran and reach agreements, but if you put it in the form of revitalizing the JCPOA, considering that The realities of Iran's nuclear program go beyond the JCPOA, and I see that you are quoting the statement of Iran's foreign minister, which refers to the fact that the JCPOA in its current form is obsolete with advances in almost all areas of Iran's nuclear program; Therefore, there is a need for very important changes and updates.”
