Gundam Breaker 4 game review; An ode to Gundam fans
Gundam Breaker 4 is a tribute to all Gundam fans; But can this game be attractive to other gamers? In this article, we will review this game.
The Gundam series is one of the most popular and well-known series in the world, which has countless fans around the world. Gundam comes in different forms; From big and small figures called Gunpla (Gundam plastic model) to anime, manga, novels and video games. The Gundam Breaker series of games are exclusively focused on Gunplas and aim to provide an experience where the player can build their own Gundam.
Recently, Gundam Breaker 4, the latest version of this series, was released and Bandai Namco promised to release a game to make the best Gundam possible; But has the Crafts & Meister studio succeeded in doing such a thing? Despite some problems, the short answer is yes. In this article, we are going to examine the strengths and weaknesses of this game.
First, we start with the gameplay; The most important and of course the best part of Gundam Breaker It is 4. According to the promises of the creators, we are facing a work that allows the customization of Gundam and the variety of components in it is wonderful. During battles, you can detach parts from other Gundams and add them to your assets. These components can then be modified to create your own Gundam. Each of these components, in addition to changes in appearance, has special capabilities and may even have some special skills. Considering the many Gundam models in the game, this part works flawlessly.
Apart from the Gundam's appearance parts such as its head, hands and backpack, it is possible to change the melee and long-range weapons and the player's skills. There are different types of weapons, each of which has its own type of combat and combos. For example, hammer-like weapons deal more damage; But the number of combos and its attack speed are different from sword or whip. Also, each Gundam can use two weapons; So combining them together gives the player a lot of freedom. In this sense, the game has a high variety and the possibility of repeating the fights is extremely low. There are some larger weapons in the game that cannot be combined with other weapons; Therefore, the player must try so many different combinations and weapons to find the best option for him.
In addition, it is possible to customize accessories for Gundam, and these components provide access to certain capabilities for the player. These capabilities may be defensive or offensive; For example, you might have an ability that applies a combo in the form of multiple attacks to an enemy, or another ability that can be used to improve the health of the Gundam itself or its armor. The player's hands are very open in this case, and as a result, we see fights that can be attractive to a wide range of audiences.
The combats of the game are also well built and despite some scenes being crowded, with the camera set on an enemy, you can focus on that part of the fight and then move on to your next goal. Usually, while completing the steps, two people from your clan are present to help you in completing the missions; But the artificial intelligence of these companions is not well designed and most of the fighting is on the shoulders of the player. Even in some cases, these companions may become your obstacle and you have to focus on reviving or reviving them!
One of the problems of the game is that it is not challenging even in high difficulty levels, and usually the difference between different difficulty levels only results in the time to complete the stages. In fact, weak AI is not only limited to your allies, and enemies do not have good AI either; As a result, most of the steps can be completed without much difficulty and move on to the next step.
Apart from story stages, there is also a part called Quest, which can be considered as a part of sub-stages. The third part called Bounty Hunter is also present in the game, which is a direct fight with bosses to get money. Finally, we see the presence of the survival section, where, like other video games, you have to destroy as many enemies as possible and not get killed.
Although there are many such sections in the game, the procedure is usually the same; Destroy a group of enemies, face a mini-boss and finally defeat the final boss! This issue, along with the lack of different environments, make the game a bit repetitive; But the game's combat is exciting enough to encourage the player to continue the experience and complete the next stages. Thanks to the multiplayer co-op section, it is possible to complete the stages with the help of two friends to create fun moments for the player with his friends.
By completing each stage, the player receives a score depending on the number of combos and time completed. The range of these grades varies from C to S, and naturally, the better this grade is, the player will receive more monetary units. These funds can be used to buy new parts. As mentioned, during the fights, other parts of the enemies can be separated, and as a result, these parts are transferred to the player. Thanks to a feature called Synthesize, it is possible to improve these parts to make them more powerful. Having strong parts is essential; Otherwise, if the level difference between the players and the enemies increases, it will be difficult to advance.
Diorama section is another part of Gundam Breaker 4, in which you can virtually design an environment consisting of Gundams and fights between them and save or upload the result of your work. The gallery section of the game is similar to the photo mode mode of other video games, where it is possible to record pictures of your Gundam in different contexts and with different modes.
But leaving the gameplay aside, it's time for the story of the game. Unfortunately, the story of the game does not meet the expectations at all and we are faced with a straightforward and overly simple story that only in some cases gets a little twisted to process the characters of the teammates. Even in these twists, the story of the game is not very interesting and the story is as if its audience is young children! This story is superficial in conveying its concepts such as bullying and high expectations of families from their members.
For example, in one of Tao's fights, one of the team members confronts his classmate who is harassing him. This incident is repeated during the fight, and suddenly without any preparation and introduction, Tao runs out of patience and stands in front of his classmate's harassment! I wish all such cases would end so easily; But unfortunately, the reality is not like this, and the simplification of the problems and the presentation of illogical solutions make the story of the game a slogan. In fact, it can be said that the story of the game is the only motivation to advance its gameplay and one should not expect much from it.
The same story weakness exists for the characters. Usually, the process is like this: the character is added to the player's clan, we spend some time with him, and after a few stages it is our turn to witness the stage where the character's past is defined and then we get enough information about him. Although this characterization model is well embedded in the game, the characters themselves are so superficial that it is impossible to connect with them and remember them.
The story is narrated in such a way that before the beginning of each stage, the members of the group gather together and we witness the exchange of dialogues between them; Then the stage starts and after its end, we see the gathering of the members again and some time is spent in their talks. Even if we consider this method of storytelling appropriate, the story itself is so weak that it affects the storytelling as well.
Finally, we come to the graphics of the game. Unfortunately, the game performs poorly in this section and we are facing outdated graphics; So that you can still see sharp edges and low-quality textures, which is not expected from a game in the middle of the ninth generation. Of course, fortunately, technically the game is optimal and we do not face bugs and technical problems so that at least in the technical graphics section of the game, it will receive a passing grade.
All in all, Gundam Breaker 4 is a must experience for Gundam fans. For others, if you can deal with some of the game's problems, it's a lovely work that will bring you lots of fun and happy moments thanks to its addictive gameplay and unparalleled customization. Maybe if the game was released with a cheaper price tag, some flaws wouldn't have been included in the game; But such problems are not worthy of a sixty-dollar work.
