Huge damage to Pakistan due to the blocking of the “Torkham” crossing.
According to the regional office of Tasnim news agency, the Pakistani newspaper “Dawn News” wrote that since August 21, the government of Pakistan has lost about 540 million rupees since the Torkham road was blocked by Pakistani protesters.
Sources told this publication that due to the suspension of exports to Afghanistan, 2.5 million dollars a day have been lost to traders.
Protesters in Kukikhel have blocked the main road and are demanding the return of displaced families who were displaced by the military operations of the Pakistan Army against militants in the tribal areas.
Manzoor Pashtin, the leader of the Pashtun Preservation Movement, gave a speech to the protesters in Kokikhel this week and said that the Pashtuns in the tribal areas are victims of the policies of the Pakistani government.
He added: The displacement of Kokikhel families in the last 10 years has resulted in huge damages, including the destruction of houses and agricultural fields.
“Why do the authorities delay the return of the displaced people to their homes, when they have repeatedly claimed that their area has been cleared of armed groups,” Pashtin wondered.
Protesters have closed the road to Torkham, which traders say is the peak season for exporting fruits and vegetables to the two countries.
Mujibullah, a customs officer, told Dawn: This is the peak season for the import of fresh fruits from Afghanistan, such as apples, apricots, grapes, and melons, along with fresh vegetables, including onions and tomatoes.
He added: Every day more than 300 trucks loaded with these items were imported from Afghanistan, but now more than 500 trucks are stopped at the Torkham crossing.
