According to Musk, 400 electrodes are working on the second patient's brain. Neuralink has written on its website that the chip uses 1024 electrodes.

Musk did not disclose when the second patient's surgery would be performed, and said he expects Neuralink to implant the next chips in the brains of eight more patients this year as part of its clinical trials.

“Noland Arbaugh” (Noland Arbaugh), the first patient to receive the chip, was also present in this podcast along with three Neuralink managers. They provided details on how the chip works and the robot-guided surgery.

Before Arbaugh received the chip, he used a stick in his mouth to tap the tablet's screen. Arbaugh initially experienced problems after the surgery because the chip's tiny wires became tangled and the electrodes that could measure brain signals became less efficient. Reuters reported that Neuralink was aware of this in its animal experiments.

Neuralink said it restored the chip's ability to monitor Arbug's brain signals by making changes that included tweaking the chip's algorithm to be more sensitive. Musk said in the podcast that Arbaugh has bettered his previous world record for speeding up cursor control by thinking alone.
