Instagram is filtered in Türkiye / content related to Haniyeh is censored by Meta
Turkey blocked the social network due to widespread censorship of posts related to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, on Instagram.
According to a reporter of the science and technology news agency Anna, citing Reuters, the infotech regulator announced on Friday that Turkey has blocked access to the social media platform Instagram.
By confirming this news, the regulatory body of Turkey clarified that the social network Instagram has been filtered by the decision of the Council of Communication and Information Technology of Turkey.
This action took place after the statements made on Wednesday by Turkey's Communications Officer, Fakhruddin Alton, criticizing Instagram for blocking posts of condolence for the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian movement Hamas.
“This is censorship pure and simple,” said Alton, director of Turkish presidential communications at X.
Instagram's parent meta platforms did not comment on Alton's ban or comments.
The Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority (BTK) published the decision on its website.
