Luka Modric, the 38-year-old star of Real Madrid, is nearing the end of his career. He no longer has his former key role in the team, but remains one of Carlo Ancelotti's key players and will continue to be so until he decides to end his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The fact that Modric is still playing at a high level at this age shows his high physical ability and fitness. He continues to play regularly for the Croatian national team, which he captains, but has doubts about how much time is left in his career.
Modric will be 40 years old when the 2026 World Cup is held in America. According to Marca, he said in an interview with the media that he is not sure of his presence in this tournament.
“The World Cup will be held in two years and at my age you can't plan too much,” Modric said. The first goal is to have the best performance in the League of Nations and after that we have to see what happens. “I can't confirm anything because we have a long way to go and I don't know if it makes sense at this age.”
The day of Modric's farewell from national football will undoubtedly be a sad day for all Croatians. But Real Madrid would probably prefer this to happen sooner and Modric retire from national football to reduce the risk of possible injuries to his valuable star.
