Meta's complaint reached Poland/Fake ads with the identity of a European billionaire
A Polish billionaire plans to sue Meta over Facebook and Instagram for false advertising and violation of his privacy.
Eviralnews,, quoted by ReutersRafal Brzoska, a Polish billionaire, and his wife have claimed that their faces were used along with false information for false advertising on Meta's social networks.
Berzoska said they have yet to finalize jurisdiction to file a case against Meta, but the move is another global effort to hold Internet giants accountable for advertising.
A Meta spokesperson said the company removes fake ads from its platforms when it detects them and works with local authorities to combat fraudsters.
Berzuska, the owner of Polish online retailer InPost, said he reported the problem to Meta in early July, but had not come up with a solution.
“We are planning to file a private lawsuit against Meta, but we have not yet made a final decision in which jurisdiction we will sue Meta,” Berzuska told Reuters. We will make a final decision in the next few weeks, and if Europe takes action, we will file a complaint in America.”
Berzuska indicated that she and her husband will ask Meta to stop monetizing ads and content that infringes on their rights. They also demanded that Meta donate an amount equal to the proceeds of the false advertising to charity for damages.
Last week, the head of the Office for Personal Data Protection ordered MetaPlatforms Ireland to stop displaying fake ads using real data and images of Berzoska and her husband on Facebook and Instagram in Poland for three months.
