The former deputy governor of New York was arrested on charges of spying for China

According to ISNA, “Linda Sun”, the former deputy of the office of New York Governor Cathy Hochul, has been arrested by the FBI on charges of being an agent of China and spying for this country.

According to CNN, Sun has been charged with alien smuggling, money laundering conspiracy, and conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Her husband, Chris Ho, also faces charges.

Prosecutors allege that Sun used his political position to covertly promote Chinese government agendas, framing the charge as a direct threat to US national security.

They have also accused Sun's husband of transferring millions in bribes for personal gain.

In July, he was targeted by the police and federal forces and finally, he was arrested today and is expected to appear in court in a few hours.

“Sun was hired by the executive chamber more than a decade ago,” Hochul's press secretary Avi Small told CNN. “We terminated his employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct, immediately reported his actions to law enforcement, and assisted law enforcement throughout the process.”

Sun has held several state titles for over a decade. His public employment record and LinkedIn profile show positions at several agencies focused on economic development, the workforce and New York's executive chamber.

In 2009, while Meng was in the state legislature, Sun was hired as the chief of staff for Representative Grace Meng. In 2012, Sun was hired by the administration of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to serve as director of Asian American Affairs and representative for Queens. Sun then earned a position as director of external affairs for Empire State Development, which manages economic development throughout New York State.

In 2018, he was rehired by Cuomo's administration and named a senior officer. He later left that post for a career in financial services.

After Hochul ascended to the state's top post, Sun was hired as deputy chief of staff, leaving his job in March 2023, about a year before he took up the position of deputy commissioner for strategic trade at the Ministry of Labor.

So far, the Chinese authorities or government institutions have not reacted to these developments
