The increase in American people's complaints about the deterioration of the flight situation

Eviralnews, quoted by the Associated Press, the number of complaints registered by airline passengers to the United States government shows that the situation of flights in this country has worsened a lot in the past year.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Friday it received nearly 97,000 complaints in 2023, up from about 86,000 the year before.

According to the ministry, there are so many complaints that it will take until July to review the cases and collect the figures.

This is the highest number of airline customer complaints since 2020, when airlines were slow to refund customers after the coronavirus outbreak and grounding of flights.

The increase in complaints came even as airlines canceled far fewer flights in the United States, according to data from the website FlightAware.

Last year, 116,700 or 1.2% of all flights were canceled, while in 2022, about 210,500 or 2.3% of all flights were canceled in this country.

However, the number of delays last year was extremely high, accounting for around 21% of all flights.

More than two-thirds of all complaints last year involved US-registered airlines, but a quarter involved foreign airlines. The rest of these complaints were filed against travel agencies and air tour operators.

According to the report, complaints about the treatment of passengers with disabilities have increased by more than a quarter compared to 2022. Most were about race or national origin.
