The PS4 console saved AMD from bankruptcy

AMD's partnership with Sony on the PS4 console has saved the tech giant from bankruptcy.

AMD has always been one of the leading companies in the field of gaming hardware. The company's latest products are incredibly popular, but that wasn't the case a few years ago.

As AMD's business director says, the company was on the brink of collapse at one point. According to his personal LinkedIn page, the PS4 console helped the company survive these difficult times.

This information was obtained from Renato Fragali. He noted that the situation was so dire in the past that the company was expected to go bankrupt by 2020. Also, their income in 2015 decreased by 10%, highlighting the plight of the company.

Fortunately, the PS4 was released in 2013 and sold over 100 million units by the end of its sales cycle. This, along with new products in the Zen and RDNA product lines, helped AMD get back on its feet.

It is also important to mention that AMD also supplied the main processors (SoC) for the Xbox One consoles. The hardware sold more than 50 million units, and while the profits on both sides were not impressive, the high volume of sales helped the company.

This company is performing very well today. Their Ryzen CPUs are great for PC gaming, while their RDNA GPUs have found a big audience. Meanwhile, AMD also supplies mainframe processors (SoCs) for handheld consoles such as the Steam Deck OLED and the Asus ROG Ally.
