The General Prosecutor's Office of Venezuela announced in a statement that one of the country's courts has issued an arrest warrant for Edmundo Gonzalez, the opposition candidate in the recent Venezuelan presidential election.

The spokesperson of the United Nations added: The Secretary General of the United Nations demands full support and respect for human rights. He reminds that no one should be arbitrarily detained or arrested and continues to call on all parties to resolve electoral disputes through peaceful means.

Dujarric stated: The Secretary General of the United Nations asks all parties, especially political leaders and their supporters, to avoid violence and refrain from provocative and tense words.

The UN Secretary-General welcomes the efforts of the international community to support negotiated solutions among Venezuelans in full respect of international law.

According to IRNA, the alleged victory of the opponents of the Venezuelan government against the announcement of the official victory of Nicolás Maduro has led to street protests and clashes with police forces and diplomatic tensions in this country.

Venezuela's National Electoral Council declared Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the presidential election with 51.2% of the votes against Edmundo González Urrutia with 44.2%. Maduro defended his victory, and the opposition, led by María Corina Machado, rejected the result, claiming González won 73.2 percent of the vote.
