Venezuela: Social networks have launched a cognitive war

Venezuela's Minister of Communications assessed social networks as a threat to democracy and warned that a cognitive war is taking place through them.

Eviralnews,, Freddy Ñáñez, Minister of Communications and Information of Venezuela, says that transnational companies that control digital social networks threaten democracy and it is time to deal with them legally.

He emphasized that what is happening in Venezuela shows what is happening in multinational companies that manage social networks.

He said: “They have not only usurped the performance of traditional media, but they have also gradually usurped the role of the government and institutions, and this issue threatens democracy as we know it.”

Nannies also stated that with social media “the possibility of a collective truth and a stable state of opinion is lost, precisely because there is an algorithm that determines what the individual wants to hear”.

Venezuela's communications minister has warned that a cognitive war is taking place through social networks, as targeted companies analyze sentiment based on the content we consume.

According to him, they weaken our ability to think and deprive us of the right to think and make decisions.

Following the holding of the presidential elections in Venezuela (July 28/August 7) and the announcement of the victory of Nicolas Maduro, which means the extension of his presidency for a third term, this Latin American country has become the target of an intense international media campaign.

At this point, the international media ignored the massive gatherings of support for the government and magnified the violent protests against the official results.

In this regard, on August 8th, Maduro ordered the suspension of X social network for 10 days. Maduro, who had also called for a ban on the messaging platform WhatsApp, ordered the suspension of the app.

In the Venezuelan election environment, the role of virtual networks and the person of “Elon Musk”, the famous American capitalist and entrepreneur and the owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter), cannot be denied. According to Elon Musk's daily publishing and re-publishing of dozens of messages on the subject of fraud in the Venezuelan elections, it seems that people with this level of ability to influence public opinion have become a tool for America and the West to deal with anti-imperialist governments.
