America and its allies are putting pressure on Russia and China's foreign trade relations
In another news, it was reported that Sergey Katiren, the head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, believes that the United States and its allies are interfering in the foreign trade relations of Russia and the People's Republic of China.
This Russian official told reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum: “Certainly there are problems and this issue is quite serious.” The problem is that America and its allies are targeting our main trading partners in the first place. “In this case, China is the main target and they are looking at where our trade is growing and where foreign trade is more active and they want to strike there.”
He added that these interferences include financial and logistical issues, including creating obstacles in the field of maritime transport, container traffic, liquid gas transfer and mutual payment systems. According to him, in this context, China is the biggest challenge for the West, because Beijing is “our largest trading partner in terms of the volume of trade.”
The head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce also pointed to the West's focus on secondary sanctions against foreign banks. He explained that due to the withdrawal of many banks from the transaction, there are now active discussions about the creation of an alternative system that would enable digital cross-payments.
Russia has shifted its trade from Europe to Asia
Vladimir Ivin, the deputy head of the Russian Federal Customs Service, also announced at the Eastern Economic Forum that the country's trade with Asian countries increased from 29% to 66% from 2014 to 2024, while trade with European countries increased from 47% to 11%. The percentage has decreased.
He said: “If 10 years ago the European Union accounted for 47% of our trade and Asia was only 29%, now 66% of our trade relations are with Asian countries, and the European Union includes only 11% of it. In 2014, the share of Asian countries excluding China was 18% and the share of China alone was 11%. But now China accounts for 34% and Asian countries account for 32% of Russia's trade.”
