Why did Alison Becker reject Saudi Arabia's million dollar offer?
Liverpool's Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker has confirmed that he received significant financial offers from the Saudi professional league after the end of the 2023-2024 season, but has decided to stay at Anfield and stick to his current contract, which runs until 2027. Alisson and Mohamed Salah faced offers to move to the Middle East in the current summer transfer window, but both players rejected the offers.
Alison, 31, also revealed that she was initially tempted to move to Saudi Arabia, but ultimately decided to stay in Merseyside as she felt it was not the right time to leave Europe.
“I have a contract and I want to honor my contract and finish it,” he said in an interview with the Telegraph newspaper. I am very happy here, my family is also happy. I never got to the stage where I discussed wages and the like with the Arabs. But when you hear about the numbers other players are getting, you're a little tempted. This is completely normal. But now is not the right time. As long as my contract is valid at Liverpool, I will focus here. If in the future the club feels that they have to negotiate about my future, it will be another discussion. “At the moment, in this transfer window, I'm focusing on my work here and my life at Liverpool.”
He added: “I never thought about leaving Liverpool. I always decided to stay. I am very excited for the season to start. We start with renewed energy and are excited to see what this season will bring us.”
Having made a successful start to the new Premier League season, Liverpool take on Brentford at Anfield on Sunday.
