Indiana Jones and the Great Circle prioritizes stealth and puzzle solving
MachineGames studio has revealed that the action-adventure game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle focuses more on stealth and solving various puzzles than action and gunplay.
MachineGames is best known for making story-driven first-person shooter titles. Due to the history of this studio, some expected that the new Indiana Jones game will have high action and gunplay. However, it is clear that the creators prioritized stealth and puzzle solving in this work.
The Indiana Jones series of games has traditionally focused on solving puzzles and eliminating enemies through your wits. So MachineGames hopes to create an accurate revision of this character.
This decision was made mainly because the developer wants to attract more audience. Therefore, it hopes to provide a unique experience. During an interview with the official Xbox podcast, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle director Jerk Gustafsson stated that MachineGames plans to make a proper adventure game for a wider audience.
He said about this:
We're making a proper adventure game here, and it's also something that's a bit more aimed at a wider audience, which is new for us.
The previous games of this studio, including the Wolfenstein series, are based on shooter gameplay. But the development team doesn't want to make another experience like it. They want to do something different and completely new this time. The developer also revealed that he wanted to stay true to the character of Indiana Jones.
So it made sense for MachineGames to go for a stealth and puzzle-based approach. The studio has focused on many things while working on the gameplay. The main character's luck, abilities and other characteristics are also very important to the narrative. The creators emphasize that Indiana Jones is wrong because he is not a superhero. As such, his humanity will play an important role in the overall experience.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released this year for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
