According to Mehr News Agency, quoted by Al-Mayadeen, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin said in his words: Our goal is to ensure the containment of the crisis in the region so that this crisis does not go beyond the Gaza Strip and does not turn into a regional conflict.
He added: We are not in a state of war with Iran and we continue our efforts to avoid the expansion of the circle of conflicts, but at the same time we take necessary measures to defend ourselves.
He further claimed: The attack against our forces was carried out with a drone and the investigation in this regard is still ongoing. This attack was carried out by a group supported by Iran! This claim is made while the Islamic Republic has repeatedly announced that the resistance axis takes its decisions for its actions in the region completely independently.
The US defense minister also claimed that his country's response to the deadly attack on the “Tower 22” military base on the border of Syria and Jordan will be “multi-layered”.
The CBS news channel also reported today, quoting American sources, that Joe Biden administration officials have confirmed that plans have been agreed to carry out a series of attacks over several days on targets inside Iraq and Syria.
He added: We do not want a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. We continue our contacts with the Israelis to ensure that the war does not escalate.
Austin said: What happened in the last 2 weeks does not make America withdraw its forces from Syria. We are in contact with the Iraqi authorities to review the situation and take the necessary steps.
