Biden's dinner with the slogans “Shame on you” and “Free Palestine”

The Gaza war sparked widespread protests on Saturday near US President Joe Biden's glitzy event with journalists, politicians and celebrities, but the participants inside did not mention it, and Biden used the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner as a joke. and used dire warnings about Donald Trump's fight to reclaim the US presidency.

According to ISNA, a banquet in Washington, which was usually reserved for presidents, journalists and comedians to point out political scandals and themselves, this year took on a different color with the presence of the opponents of the Gaza war, and it seemed that this year the upcoming presidential elections and problems would be abandoned. It will be difficult in West Asia and other places.

According to the Associated Press, anti-Israel protestors chanted slogans as the guests entered, and shouts of “shame on you, shame on you” could be heard. The protesters also said: “O Western media, we see you hiding so much horror.” Other protestors were lying motionless on the sidewalk, and vests in memory of the martyrs of the media with the text “press” written in blood were put together.

Supporters of Palestine also chanted “Free Palestine” when they saw a Palestinian flag flying from one of the windows of the Washington Hilton Hotel.

Criticism of the Biden administration's support for the Israeli military invasion of Gaza has spread on American university campuses, with students camping on campuses and resisting police operations.

On Saturday, unlike in previous years, the convoy carrying Biden arrived from the White House to the Washington Hilton Hotel through a new route to avoid the eyes of the protesters. A protest rally was held on Saturday with about 3,000 protesters.

Organizers of the protest said they aimed to draw attention to the high number of Palestinian and other Arab journalists who have been killed by the Israeli army since the war began in October. More than a dozen journalists in Gaza wrote a letter last week urging their colleagues in Washington to boycott the dinner entirely.

This letter states: “The losses that are inflicted on us simply because of our journalistic duties are staggering. “We are subject to detention, interrogation and torture by the Israeli army, all for the 'crime' of journalistic integrity.”

One of the demonstrators asked the guests who were entering the hotel: “How can you, when your colleagues in Gaza asked you not to go?” You are an accomplice.”

Inside the event, Biden publicly criticized Donald Trump, the Republican candidate and his rival in the November elections, and called him “sleepy Don”, to make up for Trump's “sleepy Joe” speech.

Biden said that the two presidential candidates, despite being similar in age, have nothing else in common. “My deputy, in fact, supports me, but Mike Pence, Trump's former vice president, has refused to endorse him for the election,” Biden said.

Referring to Trump, Joe Biden devoted a large part of his remarks to the “serious threat to democracy”. “Donald has been going through some tough times lately,” Biden said, referring to Trump's trial in connection with the case of hush money payments to a porn star (Stormy Daniels). You might call it stormy weather.”

The elderly American president gave a speech for about 10 minutes and did not mention at all the war of the Israel regime against Gaza and the humanitarian crisis in this besieged region.

One of the few references to this war was made by Kelly O'Donnell, the head of the Journalists' Association in the White House, who said that about 100 journalists were killed during the six-month war of the Israels against Palestine in Gaza. He also mentioned journalists in detention around the world, including Ivan Gershkovich, who is in Russia, and Austin Tice, who is believed to be in Syria.
