Rasul Khatibi was born on 31 Shahrivar 1357 in Tabriz. He started his professional activity in 1371 from the football school of Tractorsazi under the supervision of Talebi, at this time he was 14 years old and after three years he was able to play for Tehran, Tabriz and the municipal team.

He has also played as a forward for the national team and Esteghlal and was in Arab countries for a while until he retired and decided to continue his sports activities as a head coach.
