The hunger strike of Rashed Al-Ghannoushi, the leader of Tunisia's Ennahda, in prison

According to the report of the international group of Tasnim news agency, six of the Tunisian opposition leaders have started a hunger strike since last week in protest of their detention without trial and demanded their immediate release.

These politicians, who have been in prison since last year on charges of “conspiracy against the country's security”, demanded the cessation of judicial security prosecutions against all civil political activists.

The defense lawyers of “Rashed al-Ghannoushi” announced his hunger strike in prison and announced: This hunger strike is in solidarity with political prisoners who have been on hunger strike since last week.

Like six Tunisian opposition leaders, Hizb-ul-Ennahda leader is criticizing the actions of the president of this country, “Qais Said” in dissolving the former parliament, limiting the activities of political parties and changing the constitution. They believe that Qais Saeed's actions are a coup against the nascent democratic process in the country.

According to Al-Rai Al-Youm newspaper, the defense lawyers of Hizb-ul-Ennahda leader announced in a statement: Rashed Al-Ghannoushi started a hunger strike yesterday and asked Tunisians to adhere to a democratic Tunisia in which all citizens enjoy freedom and the rule of law. The judicial system should also be independent.

Tunisian opponents believe that the judicial system of this country is not independent and executes the orders of Qais Said.

82-year-old Rashid al-Ghannoushi has been in prison since April last month, and the Tunisian judicial system has issued two separate verdicts against him, the first of which is related to conspiracy against the country's security. In this sentence, Al-Ghannoushi was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment.

The second sentence was also issued early this month, Ghannooshi and his son-in-law (resident abroad) were sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges of receiving money from foreigners in the 2019 elections.

Hizb-ul-Ennahda has repeatedly denied such accusations and announced: the arrest of these people was made in line with the repressive policies of “Qais Saeed” against political opponents.

Arresting a terrorist with an explosive belt

Another news from Tunisia indicates that the security agents of this country arrested a terrorist who was carrying an explosive belt in the mountainous region of Qasrin (western Tunisia).

According to the statement of the Tunisian Ministry of Interior, this terrorist was planning to go to the base of terrorists in the Qasrin mountain area, when he was ambushed by security agents and arrested. Explosive weapons and belts were discovered from this terrorist.

The Tunisian judicial authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of the said terrorist so that the investigation process can be carried out on him in prison.
