This object is a small bronze tool whose diameter is not more than 3 cm and the face of Alexander the Great is engraved on it.

According to Faradid, this discovery was made by Finn Ibsen and Lars Danielsen, two amateur archaeologists who were investigating with a metal detector near the city of Ringsted.

Ringsted was the seat of Zeeland County Council; An assembly where legislative functions and social and business events took place in early Germanic societies.

This object is a small bronze tool whose diameter is not more than 3 cm and the face of Alexander the Great is engraved on it.

Alexander succeeded his father Philip II in 336 BC and spent most of his reign on a long campaign across Western Asia, Central Asia, parts of South Asia, and Egypt.

According to experts at the Mosgaard Museum, the tool dates to the Roman period and shows an image of Alexander with wavy hair and ram's horns, associated with the god Amun.

Alexander commonly referred to Zeus-Amun as his real father, and after his death, his image with horns was engraved on currency as a symbol of his divinity.

Archaeologists believe the tool belongs to a shield and matches a similar one found in a bog at Ilrup Udal. That discovery was ceremoniously placed next to 16,000 objects such as swords, bows, arrows, spears and shields.

“It's amazing,” says archaeologist Freirek Oldenberger. “Here in Scandinavia, you don't usually find anything about Alexander the Great, and you get excited when such a small portrait is discovered.”
