US-Moroccan military negotiations with the African lion exercise

Eviralnews, the “Lion of Africa 2024” exercise was held in the Maghreb in cooperation with the US Army and with the participation of thousands of soldiers from 20 countries and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) from Monday this week and will continue until June 11, 2024.

This exercise is being held in the regions of “Banjarir”, “Agadir”, “Tafnit” in the center and “Tantan” and “Agha” in the south of the Maghreb, and seven thousand soldiers from different countries of the world are participating in it.

In the Lion of Africa 2024 exercise, war bullets will be used so that the participants will increase their skills in the field of joint land, air and sea operations at night and day, special forces operations and paratroopers.

According to the statement of the Maghreb army, the forces participating in this exercise will share information, experiences among military personnel, the ability to launch joint actions, technical and operational operations, and training.

According to Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, in the Lion of Africa 2024 exercise, exercises related to the fight against weapons of mass destruction will be conducted.

At the same time as the 20th African Lion exercise was held, US Deputy Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Celeste Wa Lander, arrived in Rabat at the head of a military delegation, and Mohammad Bariz, Inspector General of the Moroccan Armed Forces, talked with him about the expansion of military relations between the two countries.

According to the statement of the Maghreb army, Wallander's trip to Rabat was made with the aim of participating in the 13th meeting of the Defense Consultative Committee (security negotiations between the United States and the Maghreb), and he met and talked with Mohammad Bariz yesterday.

In this meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation between the United States and Morocco and expressed their satisfaction with the development of military cooperation between the two countries, especially in terms of arms sales, training and holding joint exercises such as the 20th Lion of Africa 2024 exercise.

In the statement of the Moroccan army, it is stated: During the meeting of the Deputy Secretary of Defense of the United States with the Inspector General of the Moroccan Armed Forces, the two sides discussed several issues of common interest related to military security challenges in Africa, Morocco's role in peacekeeping operations, combating cross-border threats and achieving this They checked the country's advanced military equipment.

On the sidelines of the visit of former US Defense Minister Mark Esper to Rabat in October 2020, a military cooperation agreement between Morocco and the US was signed for 10 years.
