Withdrawal of American troops from Niger

According to the report of Tasnim International News Agency, not long ago, the military ruling Niger officially requested the Washington government to withdraw its military from Niger, referring to the completion of the agreement between this country and the United States.

Referring to the recent meeting of Ali Amin Zain, the Prime Minister appointed by the military rulers of Niger, with Kurt Campbell, the US Deputy Secretary of State, in Washington, the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced: In this meeting, Kurt Campbell agreed to the withdrawal of American soldiers from Niger.

The statement of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs states: Campbell and Amin Zain agreed that the plan for the withdrawal of American troops from Niger will be drawn up soon.

According to the “Wasat Libya” news site, the United States agreed to the withdrawal of its troops from Niger while Washington officials wanted to sign a new military agreement with the rulers of Niamey.

America has an airbase in northern Niger from where American drones fly and conduct surveillance and intelligence operations in West Africa to southern Libya. One thousand and 100 American soldiers are stationed in this base.

Since the military took control of Niger, the issue of closing the American air base was raised, and the military council ruling Niamey approved the closing of this base in July 2023.

Since 2013, America started its military and educational cooperation with Niger in the framework of fighting terrorism and established an air base in this country, but with the rule of the military in Niamey, Niger's relations with Western governments became tense and darkened.

An American delegation is supposed to go to Niger in the coming days to discuss the withdrawal of American troops from this African country.

A few days ago, the citizens of Niger held a demonstration in Niamey and demanded the withdrawal of American troops from their country.

Last year, Niger expelled the French soldiers stationed in the country's counter-terrorism mission.
