World Bank: Absolute poverty decreased in Iran

According to Tasnim news agency, the latest statistics published by the World Bank show that absolute poverty in Iran has significantly decreased in the last 2 years.

This international organization has defined absolute poverty based on a daily income of $2.15 per person (based on the purchasing power parity index at constant prices in 2017) and this figure is the minimum amount that a person needs to meet the essential needs of his life.

Accordingly, at the beginning of the 13th government, the ratio of the population with absolute poverty to the total population in Iran was 0.8%, but this figure has decreased to 0.7% in 2021 and to 0.5% in 2022.

In this way, absolute poverty in Iran has been decreasing for two consecutive years, and the ratio of the population with absolute poverty to the total population during this period has been 37 percent lower than in 2020, which is the last year of the previous government.

*Reduction of absolute poverty in Iran to the lowest figure in 5 years

The absolute poverty rate of 0.5% in Iran was the lowest rate recorded for this index in the last 5 years. In 2017, the ratio of the absolute poverty population in Iran to the total population was 0.3%, and this figure went through a more or less upward trend until 2020 and reached 0.8% this year.
