Zakharova: NATO plans to drag Russia into an arms race

According to the report of Tasnim International News Agency, citing “Tass” news agency, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which conducts numerous military maneuvers near the borders of the Russian Federation, is trying to put pressure on Moscow. and drag this country into an arms race.

In a statement published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zakharova mentioned: the rhetoric and training of NATO soldiers are elements of a combined war launched by the collective West against our country. In this way, they are trying to pressure Russia into an arms race and limit Russia's potential military power.

According to the diplomat, the West is trying to force Russia to abandon the goals of special military operations to protect the people of Donbass, but this will not happen, because Russia has enough means to defend its national interests in any direction.

Zakharova noted that NATO is constantly trying to promote the alleged theory of Russia's aggressive policy just to justify the existence of the bloc to the people of North America and Europe. According to him, Russia, in turn, is carefully monitoring all the actions of the NATO alliance and will draw its own conclusions from the situation.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that the delay in passport control at the Russian border is a temporary measure and the Russian side will take all necessary measures to solve the problems of crossing the border.

It is stated in this statement: There are delays in passport control of foreign nationals at government border checkpoints, including at a number of airports. The Russian side is taking comprehensive measures to resolve the current situation as soon as possible.

According to him, the delay at the borders is due to stricter inspections of foreigners in the framework of “intensified measures to prevent terrorism”. These measures are temporary and in no way related to the nationality of the incoming persons.

Yesterday, in a meeting with the Russian ambassador, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan discussed the issue of banning the citizens of this republic from entering the territory of Russia.

America's claim about Russia and China's lack of interest in UN reforms is false

Maria Zakharova also noted that the statements made by Linda Thomas Greenfield, the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations during a speech at the National Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, that Russia and China have become opponents of the reforms of the Security Council and the organization as a whole, are clearly false information. And it is contrary to reality.

The commentary of the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry published on the Ministry's website states: “According to the claim of the American side, once again before the United States, China and Russia agreed on their unwillingness to see changes in the United Nations.” At the same time, the Americans in 2021 apparently left the group and became supporters of the reform of the UN Security Council and the organization as a whole, while Russia and China remained against this process.

Zakharova stressed that Thomas-Greenfield's words were false information linked to anti-Russian tendencies. “Since 2009, a process of careful negotiation on reforms has been underway at the United Nations, with the aim of developing a compromise solution that would have the widest possible support, ideally with the consensus of the world community. The Russian side, together with like-minded people, actively Worked on this.

He drew attention to the fact that Moscow supported and continues to support the expansion of the UN Security Council and the membership of developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Russia is in favor of correcting the historical injustice towards Africa, whose current representation in the Security Council does not correspond to the number of countries on the continent, nor to their current role in international affairs.

Zakharova assured that Washington's statements will not mislead other participants in the relevant negotiation process who know Russia's principled position.
