Israel demanded the resignation of the head of UNRWA

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz demanded the immediate resignation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

This request was raised after the Israeli army claimed to have identified one of the Hamas tunnels under the organization's headquarters in Gaza.

According to Rashatodi, the Israeli army claimed: “Israeli soldiers found a tunnel well near the UNRWA school. “The well led to an underground Hamas tunnel and passed under the building that served as UNRWA's headquarters in the Gaza Strip.”

The Zionist regime claimed that the electrical infrastructure in the tunnel was connected to UNRWA's headquarters.

Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in an interview with Talk TV that 13 UNRWA employees were directly or indirectly related to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The United Nations agency tasked with helping Palestinians in Gaza has come under scrutiny in recent weeks after Israel accused several of its staff of helping Hamas carry out a deadly October 7 attack on Israeli cities. The UN has fired nine staff members and launched an investigation into the matter. The allegations led several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, to suspend funding to UNRWA.

The United Nations has called for a ceasefire in Gaza and has warned that Israel's operation will create a humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
