The release of 63 Afghan refugees from police custody in Pakistan

According to the regional office of Tasnim News Agency, Abdul Jabbar Takhari, the Consul General of the Afghan government in Karachi, stated that 63 refugees who were detained on their way back to Afghanistan were released after efforts.

He added that these asylum seekers were detained without a valid reason in the “Gotki” area in the “Sand” province of Pakistan.

Takhari emphasized that the detained asylum seekers were freed and returned to their country through the mediation of the Afghan consulate.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had previously announced in a report that the detention of Afghan refugees by Pakistan's security institutions has increased sharply.

According to the statistics of the Afghan Consulate in Karachi, more than 4,000 Afghan refugees, including women and children, have been released from Pakistani prisons and returned to Afghanistan since mid-April this year.
