US Congress gives green light to sell F-16 fighter jets to Turkey – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world's news

According to Mehr News Agency, citing Anatoly, the period of review of the official letter sent by the US government to the Congress of this country to review the contract for the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey has ended without the opposition of the Congress.

With the completion of the 15-day review period of this official letter and the failure of the US Congress to prevent the implementation of this contract, the most important stage of the contract for the sale of 40 F-16 fighter jets to Turkey has passed.

In the meantime, only Senator Rand Powell, representative of the state of Kentucky, objected to this contract, but the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee did not take legal action in line with this objection.

The Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress have the right to review and prevent contracts for the sale of weapons to foreign countries, but these two committees agreed to the contract for the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey by issuing separate statements.

The American ambassador in Ankara, in response to the agreement of the Congress of this country with the implementation of the contract for the sale of 40 F-16 fighters to Turkey and the modernization of 79 other F-16 fighters of this country, described this contract as a “big step forward”.
